Our painting week is going extremely well, with lots of wonderful master pieces being created by our talented painting group. The ladies of the group - all Westmorland Club members have been hard at work customising their Westmorland Club shopper bags into artist's aprons. We think the results are very clever and very stylish , here's a photo of the ladies.

To celebrate our 25th year in 2012 we have teamed up with Hawkshead Brewery who have very kindly allowed us to sell a Hawkshead Bitter as our own celebration ale. We need a name for this fine ale so entries on email to geoff25@hotelslakedistrict.com or on a post card to Sales Dept at the hotel. The lucky winner will receive a free tour round the Brewery and other goodies.... so get your thinking caps on for a name for our Salutation celebratory ale ..... 25 years it's not bad really!

What a brillant turn out for the Lantern parade hundreds of amazing lanterns, the village was totally lit up!
The whole weekend was a great sucess with stalls, street entertainnment, steel band, ice rink, not one but two cruises on the lake and of course the man himself Fathe Christmas magicallly swiching on the village lights!
A great time was had by all! Ho Ho Ho!

We were really pleased to attend the Pride of Lakeland Awards and very proud to present the Green Award to SENS- Sustainability and Energy Network, Staveley. The awards are all about celebrating the local people who make Lakeland life so special and this year celebrating the 10th birthday of Lakeland Radio.

Pictures of our newest Club Room Woodlands which is officially on the market for guest to book. The room has a contemporary feel with luxurious fabrics, decor, and state of the art gadgets. It is situated opposite the front entrance to the hotel and looks up to the wooded area en route to the waterfalls, hence it's aptly titled 'Woodlands'.
We have already had some fantastic feedback about the room so why not try it for yourself the next time you stay with us.

We are delighted to welcome aboard James Pendleton as our new personal trainer. James is Windermere based and has been involved in sports and fitness since he can remember .He has participated in many different sports, the main being judo, where he trained and competed all over the UK and Europe. Using different training methods, James has helped many people achieve their fitness goals. We are really looking forward to working with James .

Stuart our 'handy' maintenance man successfully completed a 25k charity mountain bike challenge. The timed mountain bike ride started and finished in Staveley taking in Longsledale, Kentmere and the Troutbeck Valley, finishing in a very respectful 3 hrs 19 minutes. The challenge was in memory of Sam Houghton a keen local mountain biker, who sadly lost his battle against Cancer in 2006 aged just 22.
Dispite the gruelling course Stuart had a great time and rasied some dosh for Cancer Research!

The Grasmere Gallop took place at the weekend, with a new route which starts with a bit of a climb up Red Bank across Loughrigg Terrace and back along the shore line of the lake, taking in some of the most breath taking scenery in the Lakes. It's a great 10k and the winner came 'Galloping' in an amazing 36 minutes! Paul and Mike from the hotel both flew in with very respectful times and totally enjoyed the event.
This event was organised by the National Trust and was a great day out with stalls, bouncy castle, kid's games, and even an exhibition of Owls!
With something for everyone, even a under 6's Teddy dash and a over 6's Super dash and of course a family fun run , a great time was had by all looking forward to next year already!

There are three 'Yomps' that make up this outdoor event in the beautiful countryside around Kirby Stephen, all routes take in the Mallerstang Horseshoe and Nine Standards with the full 23 mile Yomp and 11 mile also going over Wild Boar Fell....not for the faint hearted! Mike our head chef and his family opted for the family 'Yomp' just 6.5 miles with a gentle start , as a 1950's bus takes walkers to the starting point, well you might as well do it style. Congratulations to Jonathon Atkinson from the hotel who completed the gruelling full 23 mile 'Yomp' in a very respectful time.
Hannah and William enjoyed the walk, especially the tea, sandwiches and cakes at the end!

Some of us enjoying the fantastic weather we have been having here in the Lakes a few photo's taken on a beautiful Sunday in April (just a little windy at the summit!) of Red Screes situated between Ambleside and Patterdale. The panorama is excellent with amazing views over the Eastern fells, back down to the Kirkstone Pass Inn and spectacular views over to Windermere. A great walk for all!

We didn't want any of our guest's or visitors to miss out on the wedding of the year, so we converted the Library into a mini cinema for the day. Guest's enjoyed all day coverage of the wedding on the big screen and to keep things terriblely British we served complimentry Doubonet and sherry (two of the Queens tipples) cucumber sandwiches and of course strawberries and cream. We even showed the wedding on the big screen outside the hotel as you can see from the photo's we did get people stopping to have a look. A very patriotic day was had by all we are sure Kate and William had a ball too!

Striding Out
Some of our hard working the boys form the hotel had bit of a day out recently Stuart (maintenance), Mike (kitchen)Gerry (full time joiner/maintenance)and David(restaurant) had a trip along striding edge, making the most of the fabulous Spring weather we are enjoying at the moment.
The boys all had a great day out, took in some stunning views of the amazing Lakeland scenery and of course a thirst quenching beer just to round the day off!

We are proud to announce that the hotel has recently been awarded 3rd place in Britain's Best Breakfast awards sponsored by Visit Britain and Beacon Suppliers. The judges really enjoyed our impressive and appealing buffet as well as our hearty cooked breakfast; they also liked our very warm and friendly welcoming staff. Many congratulations to all the team at the hotel, breakfast definitely is our business!
We also had a mention on the Best Western blog after a member of the team stayed with us recently. Drew Jardine Training and Development Manager at BW enjoyed his stay with us so much he couldn't help singing our praises on the blog...thanks Drew!

Ambleside Antarctic Duo Train at The Salutation Hotel
Claire Marritt and Duncan Cameron have been members of the Salutation Hotel's gym since March 2010; they are 2 of the 5 members of the British Antarctic Expedition 2011 to mark the 100 year anniversary of the epic race to the pole between Caption Robert Scott and Roald Amundsen.
Taking a route up the crevasse riddled Axel Heilberg Glacier, the team will attempt the crossing un supported, pulling pulks and hope to kite ski to the Ronne Ice shelf. This will certainly combine the heroic age of Polar exploration with a little 21st century flair!
We will be following Claire and Duncan's training and of course the epic adventure it's self on our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages, the expedition takes place in November 2011.
We are delighted Claire and Duncan were so impressed with the facilities and equipment at the Ambleside Salutation Hotel and Spa that they have chosen the Club as a base for their training for this mammoth event.
We wish them every success in their mission and will be following their progress with regular updates....Good Luck guys!
