Denise one of our receptionists at the Grasmere Red Lion and her husband Gary, who is the Red Lion's second chef, and their four - yes four children! Thomas, Alistair Haydn and Hannah all enjoyed a well deserved break down in Dover recently. They even managed to fit in a day trip over to France to sample a little French cuisine – who knows perhaps Gary will be putting frog's legs on the menu in Grasmere soon!
Thomas and Alistair the two teenage Barnes boys (yes we know Denise doesn't look old enough!) have been working hard helping out in house keeping at the hotel in the holidays and at weekends Paul says it’s good to see a family working together!

Joe the Restaurant Manager at the Ambleside Salutation Hotel is heading off to London in June to extend his wine knowledge and attend a week's residential course to complete his Advanced Wine and Spirit Certificate. We are all hoping he will be able to bring back a few top tips and free samples - cheers Joe! |

Not only content with walking the famous Fairfield Horseshoe Hannah Salutation’s Head Chef's daughter now aged 8 has conquered both Helme Cragg and Crinkle Craggs, with the help of her ever faithful Labrador Bronte and, of course, her dad. Hannah has now 'bagged' Helvellyn and although she did complain that it was a little cold on top she had a great time. |

Although lot’s of you enjoyed the cinema trip at Christmas, lots of you missed the old favourite boat trip so it’s back and prices for the Christmas package at the Ambleside Salutation are held - the three night package is £456 per person.
If you’d rather be at home with family but fancy a trip way for New Year, then the Salutation offers New Year's Eve and New Year's Day on a dinner bed and breakfast basis with entertainment on New Year's Eve at £299 per adult.

Dali from the Grasmere Red Lion restaurant has been helping out on a voluntarily basis with Spanish lessons at Grasmere Junior School (every Wednesday for an hour), we think that’s a job in itself – well for the children anyway. |

Sandra’s disappointed that for the 12 years she has been with Westmorland Hotels she has never been in the Westmorland Club Newsletter. Well we are sure she has but can’t be positive so we thought we would give her a little mention.
Sandra started at the Grasmere Red Lion when she was a real youngster way back in 1995. Starting work first in the restaurant and eventually moving into reception where she still works as our ever reliable Shift Leader, she’s the one who is always calm and collected as are all the other girls, but Paul says she is his favourite as Sandra always has a cuppa waiting for him when he comes to work. What sweetie although Paul says he is very lucky as all the people who work with him at the Red Lion are perfect in their own little ways even though they don’t keep him supplied with a cuppa. Nice one Paul! |
