Marafun- The Challenge
Ambleside Rotary club have organise a Marathon with a difference, instead of running the whole distance on your own you team up with four other buddies and run just 5.2 miles each. The Marafun is in October and takes in some of the gorgeous scenery under Loughrigg and Rydal caves; it's all in aid of The British Heart Foundation and the Cancer unit at Westmorland General Hospital. The gauntlet has been thrown down and the Salutation have been challenge by Mark Blackburn form our local sports shop Run3. The Salutation team are hard at work training for the event, lead by team captain Paul after all there is a bit of local pride at stake here.
By all accounts training is going well, Paul clocking up the miles round Easedale Tarn, Ruth and Tilly are stepping up the pace on their early morning runs, Diane has hit the gym and Tim is reaching for the pies (or should that say skies!), bit of a late start Tim but we have every confidence you will break those running shoes in soon!!
We will keep you updated with more training news and pictures soon.

Training is going rather 'Swimmingly' for Mike Durkin and Mike Hicks, as they prepare for the Great North Swim in September. They have been spotted out and about in various lakes and tarns on their early morning training sessions. Here are a few pictures of them in action.

Stuart and Gerry from our maintenance department successfully completed a 25k charity mountain bike challenge. The timed mountain bike ride started and finished in Staveley taking in Longsledale, Kentmere and the Troutbeck Valley, despite an unfortunate puncture the boys finished in a very respectful time.
The challenge was in memory of Sam Houghton a keen local mountain biker, who sadly lost his battle against Cancer in 2006 aged just 22.
We are very proud of our Biker Boys and they raised £187 for Cancer Research UK.
Well done chaps!

Retirement News Gerry who works for us part time in the restaurant has hung up his waist coat for good and retired. We marked the occasion with a champagne send off and wish him a long and happy retirement. We will certainly miss his wonderful sense of humour, and thank him for all his hard work, no doubt he will be popping in for coffee now he is a man of leisure
