Ambleside Trail 60
We had great fun helping with the recent Ambleside Trail 60 race organised by the The Climbers Shop to celebrate their 60th year in conjunction with Brathay Hall Trust. It was a early start for threBrathay logistics team down on Rothay Park as comms, medics, flags and tents were all put into position ready to cheer off the lucky runners for the inaugural Ambleside Trail 60 race. Ben Davies started the race by waving a flag bearing the name of the shop his father had founded 60 years ago. The sun crested over Wansfell covering the runners in sunlight to give a magical start to an amazing day and they were off ! The route had been planned to include as many stunning Lakeland views as possible including Coniston, Blea Tarn, Langdale, Langstrath, Greenup, Gibson Knott, Grasmere, Rydal, Under Loughrigg and back into Rothay Park.
Our checkpoint was number one at the Boon Crag Timber Yard and because of the early start we opted for a breakfast theme our Paul, Sally-Anne, Mike, Rachel, Alice and Ruth and our little helpers Callie & Bo, set up our running breakfast buffet with an option of a English breakfast to include cold sausage and Haribo fried egg or continental option of melons oranges and flapjack along with lashings of water and plenty of Jelly Babies and other goodies . It all went really well and all the runners enjoyed the food and the breakfast theme we even had on our Chef’s whites to really get into the role in fact our checkpoint was the most talked about! The event finished back in Rothay Park and every runner that crossed the line was greeted by Lakeland fell running legend Joss Naylor MBE and was presented with a bottle opener hung with a message from Joss ‘ Well done you must be Knackered’ to open their celebratory bottle of Hawkshead Brewery beer : Trail 60 Pale brewed especially for the race. We had a fabulous day although we missed out on the beers we will offer our services again next year perhaps do a lunch stop next time!
