Girls California Road Trip
Alison and I started our California road trip at Windermere Station really catching the airport train to Manchester airport starting the holiday with a real back packer travel experience! We landed in San Francisco (or San Fran as we affectionately now call it – bragging rights we’ve been!) we stayed here 4 nights taking in the sights, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, tram ride all the usual stuff. We then picked up our motor-home who we named Bertie and this was home for the next 18 days. We made our way to Half Moon Bay which was to be our first RV Camp making full use of all the facilities and of course the free coffee. We then hit the coastal road and headed down the California Highway with LA in our sights. Stopping off at some fabulous places on the way- Sea Cliff, Monterrey (where the Cheese comes from Monterrey Jack) Carmel , Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara , Malibu and Santa Monica to name drop just a few. Then its was up and across to LA stopping at Barstow. Once in LA we took a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon which was amazing the Canyon it’s self is pretty awesome too! We had a boat journey along the Colorado river and finished off with the Sky Walk. The Sky Walk is not for the fainthearted it’s horseshoe shaped cantilever bridge with a glass walk way which extends over the Canyon so you can peer down at the Canyon below #yikes! From the LA we then made our way to the Sequoia National Park and then onto Yosemite didn’t see Yogi bear or is that Jellystone! Then it was back to good old San Fran and then back to good old Blighty – almost had a extended break thanks to Thomas Cook but BA saved the day and got us home to Heathrow having to negotiate our 65L back packs on the tube was a challenge ! All in all a wonderful adventure and we can’t wait for the next one – just have to do a bit more negotiating to get the time off – perhaps the back packs were an easier challenge to negotiate!
